       Xuzhou Museum is a comprehensive museum which is responsible for the excavation, protection, exhibition, collection and research of the historical heritage in Xuzhou City, as well as the national first-class humanities and social sciences popularization base and the patriotism education base of Jiangsu province and Xuzhou City. It was found in April 1959 and officially opened in August 1960. The predecessor of Xuzhou Museum is the Xuzhou Cultural Relics Management Committee which was found in 1951 and Xuzhou Carving Stone Portrait of Han Dynasty Custody Section  which was found in 1956. Xuzhou Museum granted as the national second level Museum  by the State Administration of Cultural Heritage in May 2009 and it named national AAAA tourist attraction in April 2014. Xuzhou Museum totally covers an area of 40000 square meters, including construction area of 20000 square meters and exhibition area of 6500 square meters.


       Xuzhou Museum is rich in cultural relics and has a complete collection system which highlight the unique history and culture of Xuzhou. Some objects are not only on behalf of the art level in the region, but also represents the highest level in China. Xuzhou Museum totally collects 15577 objects, among them 59 pieces (or sets) in the first level, 246 pieces (or sets) in the second level and 758 pieces (or sets) in the third level. For the collections, mainly we have pottery, porcelain, jade, gold and silver, iron, copper, seals, calligraphy, other miscellaneous categories. For the ages, the abundant collections are from the Neolithic Age to the Ming and Qing Dynasties as well as the modern work of art. Especially distinguished cultural relics are from the neolithic age, the Han Dynasty and the Ming Dynasty. In addition, the cultural relics of Han Dynasty are the  most representative objects for forming of a complete display system. The majority of the collections were unearthed from ancient ruins or tombs by scientific excavations, with clear times and sources.

       The main building of Xuzhou Museum consists of “Metal Hardware and Battle Steed”, “Treasures of Han Dynasty”, “Marvelous Jade of Han Dynasty”, “Ornate Terracotta Figurine”, “Chinese Porcelain and Other Collections”, “Qing-style furniture”, “ancient Chinese painting and calligraphy donated by Deng Yongqing” these 7 display parts, with more than 2000 collections representing the abundant historical culture of Xuzhou. Quarry Sites of Han Dynasty exhibits part of stone-pits. The Tombs of the Pengcheng King of Eastern Han Dynasty in Tu Shan exhibits the archaeological dig and the cultural relics which were unearthed from it. The Xanadu palace of the Emperor Qianlong of Qing Dynasty display the historical material of Qianlong and Xuzhou and the Stone Steles through the ages of Xuzhou. As an important window of cultural communication, Xuzhou Museum actively organized cultural relics exchange. in recent years, we have held exhibitions tour in China. In addition, we have held exhibitions in Australia, Austria, Britain and the other countries, with the aim to show the Han Culture of Xuzhou.


       Xuzhou Museum was rebuilt and extended in 2010 and finished in October 2012. The exhibition zone overall consists of the Quarry Sites of Han Dynasty, the Family Tombs of the Pengcheng King of Eastern Han Dynasty in Tu Shan, the Xanadu palace of the Emperor Qianlong of Qing Dynasty and the main exhibition building this four part sections. This is currently the only local modern integrative museum whose exhibition is in combination with tombs and sites, and whose protection includes municipal, provincial and national level.

       Xuzhou Museum is located in 118, Heping Road, Xuzhou City. Admission is always free. The Museum is open 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. every Tuesday to Sunday. About 400000 visitors enter Xuzhou Museum every year.
